Worship Pastor/Director
Position: Worship Pastor/Director
Weekly Hours: 5 (2 hrs Wednesday/ 3 hrs Sunday)
Requirements:
- Must have professed faith in Jesus Christ and a daily testimony consistent with a Biblical walk with Christ.
- Experience in worship leading in a smaller (100+) church setting.
- Music Degree or comparable experience
- Ability to lead a small (12+) choir
- Understanding/experience with Planning Center and Proclaim Presentation Softwware a plus
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan Sunday morning worship services
- Lead Wednesday night choir rehearsal
- Work/communicate with the volunteer a/v personnel in preparation for worship services
- Prepare slides for worship using Proclaim presentation software
- Assist in other church activities as they arise (VBS, Homecoming Sunday, etc)
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Mizpah Baptist Church is located on the outskirts of Florence, SC within a half mile of Francis Marion University. Since 1835, Mizpah has had a commitment to Biblical teaching and God-centered worship. During COVID-19, the church suffered serious decline, yet through the leadership of the Lord, the church has seen steady growth. The worship style is a mix of southern gospel hymns and modern praise choruses. Even though the average age of the congregation is older, Mizpah has a heart for new worship as long as it is Biblical and draws people into engaging in corporate worship. Currently, music is accompanied only by a highly skilled pianist; however, the church has had a praise band in the past and is open to growing that ministry.

Pianist
Position: Pianist
Statement of Purpose:
To play the piano for the music programs of Mizpah Baptist Church. Work closely with the Music Director / Worship Pastor.
Requirements:
- Born again believer in Jesus Christ
- Personal testimony and character in the community consistent with the standards of Mizpah Baptist Church.
- Regular and consistent transportation.
- Past experience playing in a worship setting.
- Basic understanding of hymnody in a Baptist setting
- Ability to read music.
- Comfortable reading from the hymnal but able to “embellish” the music when needed.
- Ability to read chord charts/lead sheets is a plus (but not required).
- Ability to “underscore” moments in the service (prayer/invitation/benediction)
- Ability to play in multiple styles (contemporary/traditional/southern gospel)
- Ability to provide a substitute pianist in the event of an absence or requested week off.
- Play for all planned services.
- Play for Adult choir and any other ensembles assigned by the Music Director / Worship Pastor.
- Work with the Music Director and Pastor to ensure a quality music program for Mizpah Baptist Church.
- In the event the pianist is asked to play at a funeral or a wedding, they will be responsible for discussing with the family their fees and availability, if any.
- If unable to report for choir practice or church service, contact the Music Director.
Supervision:
- Reports directly to the Music Director / Worship Pastor but works for the church.
Compensation:
- As agreed, upon by the church and planned in the church budget.
- Work Hours
- Weekly choir practice/worship team rehearsal
- Sunday morning rehearsal/sound check
- Sunday morning worship service
- 2 cantatas a year (Christmas/Easter) typically held on a Sunday evening.
- 2 “nights of worship” typically held on a Sunday evening.
